Pediatric Clinic

A portion of the card sales goes to buy medicines for a pediatric clinic in the area of Magdalena Milpas Altas. The clinic is staffed by Doctor Sara, our nurse Francisca, and the Students International volunteer site leader, Britney. Because of the popularity of the clinic, we often have to limit the number of patients the doctor sees in a day to 20. Exceptions are made for special and serious circumstances.

Families pay a nominal fee of $1.25 for up to 3 members of the family see the doctor. Exceptions are made for families who cannot afford the fee. The advantage of our clinic is that the prescribed medicine is given to the patient for free. By contrast, the other clinic in the area will see patients for free, but all too often the patients go without the medicine that they need because of its high cost. This is where Guatemala Greetings helps with the clinic. A portion of the proceeds from every card sale goes to buy medicine to stock the clinic’s pharmacy, ensuring that no patient walks away with less than the prescribed dosage because of cost.

One of the biggest needs in the community where we work is that of health care. We are excited to be able to help though the donation of medicines to the pediatric clinic.
